K-Pop

'K-pop' (Korean pop music) has begun to develop a global following. Whilst the modern, highly styled and fashion concious music genre has developed a cult following since the late '90s amongst pockets of western audiences, when 'Girls Generation' appeared on 'Letterman' back in January it marked a breakthrough in the global market for K-pop. Like western pop, K-pop is a high trend, high fashion culture. Here are a few of the coolest hair trends from South Korea.

Dianna Agron Hair

Dianna Agron wore a bit of a birds nest at the S.A.G. awards but I think the gorgeous Glee girl has so many fantastic styles she can wear I just had to put together a few pictures. Enjoy.

Renee Bargh Hair

Renee Bargh also sported a garishly contrasting fake plait at the S.A.G. awards but just about wore it well. So here are some styles that she also recently rocked.

The heidi braid, the blonde fishtail and big blonde waves.

Kaley Cuoco Hair

I didn't like Kaleys braided hair band and small shaped beehive at the recent S.A.G. awards. I felt the large fringe sections did little to enhance her beautiful face.

Here is that horrid style and some shots of her looking simply fantastic.

Katherine Kelly

Katherine Kelly back to brunette

Katherine Kelly has banished the blonde now she is no longer playing Becky McDonald on Coronation Street.
Katherine Kelly as Blonde Becky McDonald
It is a good example of how your hair colour can really be a part of your identity. If your hair is not right you don't feel yourself. Katherine certainly needed to return to her healthy brunette for her own sense of self.

Golden Globes

Here are my favourite looks from last nights 'Golden Globe' awards. This is the first event of the Hollywood award season, culminating in the Oscars in February.

Zooey Deschanel with a gorgeous, rich, multi tonal shade of brunette.

Katy Perry Blue Hair

Katy Perry with Blue Hair at Paris fashion week

Katy Perry has grabbed the headlines by sporting Blue hair. I love this colour and I really think it suits her skin tone and eye colour, despite being a completely unnatural shade. It is the most elegant and understated avant garde style I have seen in a while. I have been a blue haired boy in the past so I approve. It is much better than the washed out pink / blonde bob she was wearing last year. Go Katy.

Kim Kardashian

Kim Kardashian has added some bangs. Very Kelly Rowland, huh? A simple way to update her long, dark hair.

Trevor Sorbie

British hairdresser of the year 4 times
Born in Scotland, his parents moved south when he was aged 11. Dropping out of school aged 15, Sorbie started cutting hair as an apprentice to his father in Ilford in 1964. He opened his own barbers in Edmonton, North London aged 20 in 1969.
He became stylist for Vidal Sassoon in 1972, and Artistic Director in 1973. Following this he spent time as a stylist and session hairdresser at Toni & Guy and John Frieda, before opening his first salon in 1979 in Covent Garden; he opened a second in Brighton in 2004.
Sorbie, creator of the wedge haircut and a four-time British Hairdresser of the Year winner,[3] was awarded an MBE in 2004.
Sorbie has started his own charity known as "My New Hair". The charity came to be after Sorbie was involved in helping his brother's wife create a wig that looked like real hair as she battled with bone cancer.[8]
Since starting My New Hair Trevor has given up salon work, and works full time on the project. Sorbie also visited 10 Downing Street, and since has become involved in writing a national policy for NHS wigs.[9] The charity recently met with MPs, and attended a parliamentary briefing during which 25 MP's were convinced - for the first time - to lobby ministers for better wig services from the NHS

Katy Perry

Katy with a new look
Katy Perry has been wearing her hair in another new style... I wonder if this is just how it looks when the pink washes through. I certainly prefer her blonde though. It really gives her a glow and when I first saw these pictures I went 'ahh... that's nice.' It is a bit more 'girl next door.' We like.

Taylor Swift Bangs

Taylor with a new fringe

Taylor Swift has had some classic 'bangs' cut in. The rock star fringe is into the eyeline and seperates naturally. This is the definition of the American term 'bangs' - a particular kind of fringe.

Nagi Noda

Check out these incredible 'Hair Hats' by artist Nagi Noda. Something really different and avant garde, without chopping it off and dying it green.

Viva Vidal

Vidal Sassoon, CBE (born 17 January 1928) is a widely recognised British hairdresser, credited with creating a simple geometric, "Bauhaus-inspired" hair style, also called the bob. Due to the popularity of his styles, he has been described as "a rock star, an artist, [and] a craftsman who 'changed the world with a pair of scissors.'"[1]
His "wash and wear" philosophy liberated women from the "tyranny of the salon" and "revolutionised the art of hairstyling."[1] Sassoon's styles became "emblematic of freedom and good health," and their popularity allowed him to open the first chain of worldwide hair styling salons, complemented by his hair-treatment products.[2] He is also remembered for his television commercials in the 1960s. A documentary film about his life, Vidal Sassoon: The Movie, was released in 2010.[1]

Vidal Sassoon was a maverick and an insipation. The documenatry about his life was recently on the BBC and is still on their iplayer, just click here.

I was inspired by Vidal, his energy, his wonderful life story, his vision and his heart.
At Scott Jessop Hair we totally agree with Vidal. We believe in 'wash and wear' hair, that a good cut should fall into place without excessive styling.
