K-Pop

'K-pop' (Korean pop music) has begun to develop a global following. Whilst the modern, highly styled and fashion concious music genre has developed a cult following since the late '90s amongst pockets of western audiences, when 'Girls Generation' appeared on 'Letterman' back in January it marked a breakthrough in the global market for K-pop. Like western pop, K-pop is a high trend, high fashion culture. Here are a few of the coolest hair trends from South Korea.

K-pop stars

Girls Generation (So Nyuh Shi Dae), a nine strong girl group are one of the biggest names in K-pop. Their hair is typically girly. Long locks and big waves teamed with heavy, brow-scraping, full fringes. There is a strong fashion for block colouring, usually intensification of the natural tone, such as a deep, rich, chocolate brown or a heddy, vibrant auburn.

Hyuna, another K-pop princess rocks bold colours like her western counterparts. Rather than 'blonde' she goes for 'glowing gold.'

The fashion shade I think shouts 'K-pop' is candy pink, inspired by Orinoko.

Korean pop music culture is at an exiting and important time in its history. Its influence already pervades Asia. Musically and stylistically there are many parallells with the west and I imagine many of the K-pop class of 2012 would easily sit on a lineup next to Rhianna and Katy Perry. After an act manages to break through into the mainstream western music scene then maybe the door will be open for K-pop artists to become global stars.

K-pop is here!

So here is the K-pop!
