G/B/U - Fernando Torres
Good / Bad / Ugly
Fernando Torres has had some different haircuts over the years... The good...
I think he looks best with the sides short and the top textured. I also think his hair looks better darker.
He still looks good with longer and blonder hair, especially as he looks happy and comfortable with this look. It does look better off his face though. I am not sure about the big fringe.
In the picture on the cover of his book he has a bit of an overgrown mess. What a shame.
So on to the bad and ugly...

British Hairdresser of the Year 2011
Congratulations to all the nominees for this years British hairdresser of the year awards.

I am sure they all had a great time at the event. Jonathan Ross was presenting the awards and Aloe Blacc performed.
And The Winners Are...Extensions
Today a friend asked my opinion about hair extensions. Oh boy, do I have a position on this!
I hate hair extensions.

Whilst they may look good on television or in photographs, they are pretty ugly in reality. I love to run my fingers through my ( and my clients ) hair. I think it is a horrid sensation when you feel someones extensions expecting flowing hair.

Just a little rant about training
One of the things I get really cross about is the treatment of apprentices, juniors, technicians or whatever you want to call the lowest rung on your staff ladder at ‘bad attitude cuts inc.’ Here I lift the lid on the darker side of in salon apprenticeships.

Hair in the sink?
One of the most common things I notice when I wash hair in the salon is the amount of hair that ends up in my plug hole, even off one head.
Don't be alarmed, my clients are not all going bald.
Every day it is natural to shed between 50 to 100 hairs. Don't worry, out of the approximately 120 000 you have in total it is not a great deal.
This is because every hair has a growth cycle. In the anagen phase, the new hair is growing. Individual hairs can grow for up to 6 years and at an average rate of half an inch each month...

Viva Vidal
Vidal Sassoon, CBE (born 17 January 1928) is a widely recognised British hairdresser, credited with creating a simple geometric, "Bauhaus-inspired" hair style, also called the bob. Due to the popularity of his styles, he has been described as "a rock star, an artist, [and] a craftsman who 'changed the world with a pair of scissors.'"[1]
His "wash and wear" philosophy liberated women from the "tyranny of the salon" and "revolutionised the art of hairstyling."[1] Sassoon's styles became "emblematic of freedom and good health," and their popularity allowed him to open the first chain of worldwide hair styling salons, complemented by his hair-treatment products.[2] He is also remembered for his television commercials in the 1960s. A documentary film about his life, Vidal Sassoon: The Movie, was released in 2010.[1]
Vidal Sassoon was a maverick and an insipation. The documenatry about his life was recently on the BBC and is still on their iplayer, just click here.
I was inspired by Vidal, his energy, his wonderful life story, his vision and his heart.
At Scott Jessop Hair we totally agree with Vidal. We believe in 'wash and wear' hair, that a good cut should fall into place without excessive styling.

magazines
Here at Scott Jessop Hair we believe in attention to detail. This includes the literature we keep in the waiting area.
These are my favourite titles.
Elle is a great journal of high end, mainstream fashion. It regularly features new icons from popular culture and all the latest from the big fashion houses.
It is a bit more accessible and youthful than Vogue. We sometimes get American Elle if there is an interesting article but we prefer the U.K. version. I really love their regular 'hair how to' pages. I cut these out and keep them in our style files at the salon.
Elle also produce a round up of the big catwalk shows at the start of every season. Elle 'Collections' has pretty much every dress from every major show as well as mood boards and articles. I find this essential reading.
