Q/A - Holiday Hair

One of my friends on Facebook just messaged me -

"Hi, I was wondering if you could give me some advice. My hair has been over highlighted and i think it's too blonde for my skin colour. I want to tone in down before I go on holiday in a couple of weeks. What do you suggest I do"

- Here is my reply.

HI hon, I think the best thing to do would be to treat it to an all over DEMI permanent colour -

http://scottjessophair.blogspot.co.uk/2012/01/shine-shine-shine.html

As your hair will proably be porus after the bleaching and hillighting we dont want to damage it any further with a strong permanent colour (that will probably fade anyway on holiday).

Demi is ammonia free and will condition your hair. We can select the perfect shade for you and then take a subtle, half step down.
This way, as it fades it will evolve into a sunkist, multi-tonal blonde. If you like the colour, after your hols you can have it coloured permanantly.
Right now it is important to care for your hair.

Full head of Demi is just £32 with our fantastic stylist Shannon.

Give us a call on 01789299744 tomorrow and we can arrange an appointment to suit you. x

Holiday Hair

Keep your hair at its best if you are off in search of the sun this summer. Here are some tips.

- Remember, the sun can damage your hair. A pretty simple rule is, 'if you have to protect your skin, protect your hair.'
Although hair care products do not carry a specific 'spf' (sun protection factor) as skincare products do, you can now buy products with UV protection. We love the Bondi 'Beach Babe' leave in conditioner with sunscreeen. Sadly this will be the last summer you can buy this product as it has been discontinued. (shame.) I think we are down to our last three bottles!

- Top tip number 2 is wet your hair.
Before you get into the pool or the sea, wet your hair down with a bit of bottled water. Your hair, at the cortex, can act like a sponge. It is better to fill it with pure water as this will prevent it from soaking up chlorine from the pool.

- Braid it / plait it
A scalp plait or braided hair is less likely to be dried out or to be affected by the humidity in hot climates.

- Cover up!
Wearing a hat or silk scarf is the most certain way to prevent a halo of frazzle developing across your halo of highlights.

- Condition and care.
After a long day in the sun, give your hair a treat! Come into the salon for a dose of our 'miracle' treatment, L'Oreal Fiberceutic 'Botox for the hair.' At just £15 this will rejuvinate horrid holiday hair in minutes, leaving it silky smooth. We also stock a range of masks, creams and treatments you can enjoy at home.

Avril Lavigne Shave shame

Avril Lavigne has been pictured with a shaved panel in her head. What a shame. She looks pretty gaunt as well. Too much rock and roll young lady? Don't go all Winehouse on us, Avril.

Avril Lavigne shaved head hair. Hmm.

She has been prone to the hollywood extensions craze. Maybe her hair has been damaged at the sides and back like Jennifer Aniston and Posh. (see previous post on extensions here)

K-Pop

'K-pop' (Korean pop music) has begun to develop a global following. Whilst the modern, highly styled and fashion concious music genre has developed a cult following since the late '90s amongst pockets of western audiences, when 'Girls Generation' appeared on 'Letterman' back in January it marked a breakthrough in the global market for K-pop. Like western pop, K-pop is a high trend, high fashion culture. Here are a few of the coolest hair trends from South Korea.

Dianna Agron Hair

Dianna Agron wore a bit of a birds nest at the S.A.G. awards but I think the gorgeous Glee girl has so many fantastic styles she can wear I just had to put together a few pictures. Enjoy.

Renee Bargh Hair

Renee Bargh also sported a garishly contrasting fake plait at the S.A.G. awards but just about wore it well. So here are some styles that she also recently rocked.

The heidi braid, the blonde fishtail and big blonde waves.

Kaley Cuoco Hair

I didn't like Kaleys braided hair band and small shaped beehive at the recent S.A.G. awards. I felt the large fringe sections did little to enhance her beautiful face.

Here is that horrid style and some shots of her looking simply fantastic.

Screen Actors Guild Awards 2012

At this years Screen Actors Guild Awards, there seemed to be a theme. Hair held back with braided hair bands.

Amongst the updos, Austrailian actress Rose Byrne stole the show. I love her bob with subtle highlighting.

Before You Brazilian...

The Brazilian Scandal

"California Attorney General Kamala Harris says a settlement has been reached with the makers of the popular hairstyle treatment "Brazilian Blowout".

The manufacturer of the popular hair-smoothing treatment is now required to warn hair stylists and their customers they're being exposed to a cancer-causing chemical.

The lawsuit accused Brazilian Blowout of violating several state laws by falsely marketing the products as "salon safe" and "formaldehyde free" which are  lies according to investigators.

The settlement is the first enforceable action under a 2005 cosmetics labeling law, and will also require the company to submit its products for testing."

http://www.kmjnow.com - News Radio (U.S.A.)

Scott Says...

"I was always aware that the 'Brazillian Blow Dry' contained dangerous formaldehyde. I would never offer this service."

"Recently, I was happy to offer the service because I was assured that the latest formula is 'formaldehyde free.'

Having read this article I will not be offering my clients a potentially lethal service.
It seems despite claiming to be formaldehyde free the product is easy to fake."

"At Scott Jessop Hair we only use the best quality products. We never take unnecessary risks. We never put a profit margin ahead of our clients care."

"Love you.

Scott x"

Katherine Kelly

Katherine Kelly back to brunette

Katherine Kelly has banished the blonde now she is no longer playing Becky McDonald on Coronation Street.
Katherine Kelly as Blonde Becky McDonald
It is a good example of how your hair colour can really be a part of your identity. If your hair is not right you don't feel yourself. Katherine certainly needed to return to her healthy brunette for her own sense of self.

Clear Cut

In my competitors price guides I have see the haircut described in so many different terms
and priced in a variety of ways.
What is the difference between a cut and blow dry and a cut and finish?
Why do I pay more for a 'restyle?'

We want to make things clear.

Consultation - £0.00
Before every service we perform a consultation. This is really a chat about your hair and your lifestyle. We get the style files out and look through the picture books. The most important thing is clarity - both so the stylist knows exactly what you want and so you, the client is sure what will be happening. This ensures you are going to be happy with the finish and there will be no surprises. We also make sure you are fully aware of what you will be paying for. There are no hidden costs.

Cut and blow dry. - £29.00
After your consultation we wash your hair in Schwartzkopf shampoo tailored to your hair type. We then use a conditioning mask and massage the head. Your hair will be cut into shape whilst wet. We then blow dry your hair, either with styling brushes or naturally. We then dry cut into the shape, we finesse and perfect the cut. The whole style can then be finished with hot tools, for example tong curls. Throughout this service we use the approriate products for your hair.

Golden Globes

Here are my favourite looks from last nights 'Golden Globe' awards. This is the first event of the Hollywood award season, culminating in the Oscars in February.

Zooey Deschanel with a gorgeous, rich, multi tonal shade of brunette.

Katy Perry Blue Hair

Katy Perry with Blue Hair at Paris fashion week

Katy Perry has grabbed the headlines by sporting Blue hair. I love this colour and I really think it suits her skin tone and eye colour, despite being a completely unnatural shade. It is the most elegant and understated avant garde style I have seen in a while. I have been a blue haired boy in the past so I approve. It is much better than the washed out pink / blonde bob she was wearing last year. Go Katy.

Home Kit - Q/A

Home kit hair dye is a risky business.

Lets just get a few things clear.

You hair is your biggest fashion accessory.

You would not buy a coat or pair of shoes for £5.00 and wear them every day.

You would probably not attempt to make your own shoes at home from a Jimmy Choo flatpack.

You would always trust your dentist to work on your teeth and not give yourself a filling in your kitchen.

You would not self prescribe contact lenses and then fit them at home.

So why do people still think it is a good idea to colour their hair at home?

Listen to what this girl has to say...

Read what I have to say...

There are many different hair types and conditions. A home kit is a cover all bases approach that is simply not right for many people.

Trevor Sorbie

British hairdresser of the year 4 times
Born in Scotland, his parents moved south when he was aged 11. Dropping out of school aged 15, Sorbie started cutting hair as an apprentice to his father in Ilford in 1964. He opened his own barbers in Edmonton, North London aged 20 in 1969.
He became stylist for Vidal Sassoon in 1972, and Artistic Director in 1973. Following this he spent time as a stylist and session hairdresser at Toni & Guy and John Frieda, before opening his first salon in 1979 in Covent Garden; he opened a second in Brighton in 2004.
Sorbie, creator of the wedge haircut and a four-time British Hairdresser of the Year winner,[3] was awarded an MBE in 2004.
Sorbie has started his own charity known as "My New Hair". The charity came to be after Sorbie was involved in helping his brother's wife create a wig that looked like real hair as she battled with bone cancer.[8]
Since starting My New Hair Trevor has given up salon work, and works full time on the project. Sorbie also visited 10 Downing Street, and since has become involved in writing a national policy for NHS wigs.[9] The charity recently met with MPs, and attended a parliamentary briefing during which 25 MP's were convinced - for the first time - to lobby ministers for better wig services from the NHS

Blue Hair Prank

I just have to share this video with you. If you love hair like we do you will be stunned. I don't think that the poor guy realises how bad his girlfriend will feel. Listen to her scream! (sorry about her language)
Do not try this at home!

Shine, Shine, Shine.

I have just got to rave about schwarzkopf Igora vibrance.

It is simply the shiniest hair colour I have ever used. It leaves the hair feeling nourished, conditioned and at its best. That is what I am looking for in hair colour.

I always say,
"It doesn't matter what colour you want it, as long as it radiates health."

                                            Our clients love the results.
